The trial of a Monaghan farmer who pleaded guilty to 12 charges relating to the possession of an illegal animal growth-promoting substance and other banned products was adjourned yesterday.

Mr Peadar Hamill (51), of Inniskeen, was charged at Monaghan Circuit Court with having the prohibited substance at Glebe, Ardee, for sale or supply. He also pleaded guilty to charges relating to the possession of the substance, implant cartridges and syringes at his Inniskeen farm.

An application by the defence for an adjournment to Cavan Circuit Court was to enable the presentation of evidence from witnesses on behalf of the accused.
