Animal cruelty case adjourned

A district court judge said yesterday that in 15 years on the bench he had never come across such criminal neglect

A district court judge said yesterday that in 15 years on the bench he had never come across such criminal neglect. The court heard three cows and a calf belonging to Patrick Barry, St Bridget's Terrace, Bundoran, Co Donegal, were so emaciated they had to be put down and 10 other cattle on the defendant's lands at Bunduff, Castlegal, Co Sligo, were in such a bad condition that it was obvious they had not been fed for months.

Adjourning the case to Ballymote court on Tuesday next, Judge Oliver McGuinness said he would want an assurance at that court that there were no longer any animals on the defendant's land.
