Remarks by Dr Julia Neuberger, the University of Ulster Chancellor, describing single religion schools as "sectarian" were defended yesterday by Dr Philip McGarry of the Alliance party, although he said her use of language was "unwise".
"I can understand the people may have interpreted the use of the word `sectarian' as being insensitive . . . However Julia Neuberger has a long record of supporting shared education. She has publicly opposed Jewish only schools and therefore she has the right to have her say on Catholic and Protestant schools," said Mr McGarry.
