London - Five explorers became the first British women to reach the South Pole unaided and unguided yesterday after trekking 1,110 km across Antartica.
Ms Caroline Hamilton (35), Ms Ann Daniels (32), Ms Pom Oliver (46), Ms Zoe Hudson (32), and Ms Rosie Stancer-Clayton (39) - a great-niece of the Queen Mother - reached the South Pole at 6 a.m.
"Nothing, in the end, proved too hard," the team leader, Ms Hamilton, said in a telephone interview.
