Prague - The Czech-born US Secretary of State, Ms Madeleine Albright, has ended speculation that she may one day stand for the presidency of the Czech Republic, saying bluntly that she will never be a candidate.

"I am very flattered by the speculation that I might be considered a serious candidate in the future for the Presidency of the Czech Republic," she said in a statement. "However, I am not, and will not be a candidate for that high office, for which I am sure there will be no shortage of highly qualified Czech men and women."
