The main security checkpoint on the approach to Belfast International Airport is to be removed in the light of the reduced terrorist threat, it was announced yesterday by the RUC. Several main roads around the airport which have been closed for many years are also to be reopened with immediate effect.
The RUC commander for the Antrim area, Supt Richard Meeke, confirmed the main vehicle checkpoint and security ramps on the airport approach road would be discontinued as soon as possible.
