An air base in Afghanistan housing mainly US troops came under fire on the anniversary of the terror strikes in the United States.
"Two local men were involved in a shooting incident this morning at one of the towers on the perimeter of the base," said US military spokeswoman Captain Christa D'Andrea.
"It was small arms fire and security forces returned fire and the two men were detained." She said it was unclear whether both arrested men had opened fire.
The shooting coincided with a dawn anniversary ceremony at the base in which the US flag was raised and then lowered to half-mast.
