The industrial dispute between Aer Lingus cabin crew and the company is to be re-examined in the Labour Court.

The IMPACT workers have been involved in a work-to-rule since September and are set to stage an all-out strike over the October Bank Holiday weekend.

The National Implementation Body - the Government group which oversees disputes involving national pay agreements - met yesterday to consider the ongoing situation at Aer Lingus and meet unions and management separately.

In a statement today, the NIB said that "despite the fact that the Labour Court had already made considerable efforts to resolve the dispute, there was a striking divergence between the parties on the facts of the case.

"Therefore, it is requesting the Court to revisit the case with a view to issuing a final recommendation, as a matter of urgency, as to the scale and extent of change appropriate to the payment in question."

The NIB said it was requesting the parties involved to "co-operate with the Court and, in the context of an immediate intervention by it, draws to the attention of the parties their obligations under the industrial peace and stabilisation provisions of the national pay agreement."
