Industrial action threatened at the State’s airports has been postponed ahead of talks today at the Labour Relations Commission between Siptu and management.
The union yesterday accepted an invitation to talks with Aer Lingus and the Dublin Airport Authority under the LRC over the joint pension scheme deficit. Siptu “reluctantly” agreed to suspend industrial action due to take place on Monday, which was a condition of the talks going ahead.
Siptu members at DAA and Aer Lingus yesterday held five hours of talks in which they considered the 30 pages of proposals given to them by the Labour Relations Commission on Wednesday night.
Members “made this decision despite strong reservations over the negotiation infrastructure proposed by the LRC and the unnecessary tactics used by the employers over the last number of days”, Siptu sectoral organiser Dermot O’Loughlin said yesterday.
Siptu had proposed two-hour stoppages at Aer Lingus and the DAA that could close Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.
