AN INTERNAL investigation has been opened by Aer Arann following a complaint by a customer who subsequently detailed his treatment in an online blog post.

The customer outlined details of exchanges he said took place with a member of cabin crew aboard a flight from Bristol to Dublin which was booked through Aer Lingus but operated under franchise by Aer Arann.

The post has since been removed by the blogger, who says he is taking legal advice on the matter.

The incident, which took place on a flight to Ireland following the Glastonbury festival last weekend, was detailed in the anonymous blog posted under the online identity Leo the Geek.

In his post the blogger detailed his dealings with a cabin attendant aboard the flight who he contended dealt with him in an unprofessional manner throughout the short flight. The blogger claimed that, due to the behaviour in which he was treated, he looked at the flight attendant’s badge while she was sitting opposite him in order to take down her name having resolved to make a complaint over her rudeness and brusque manner.

A Garda source has since confirmed that gardaí responded to a complaint which was made by a female crew member and subsequently interviewed both the woman and a male passenger after the aircraft touched down.

The source confirmed that at least three cars – one Garda car and two airport police vehicles – attended the scene and were on the tarmac as the aircraft touched down.

The gardaí quickly formed the view that no criminal offence had occurred and that at no stage was any member of the crew or the aircraft itself in any danger.

Contacted by The Irish Times, the blogger said that he would not be making comment at this time pending legal advice on the matter.

A spokeswoman for Aer Arann confirmed yesterday that an investigation was taking place. “We are taking the matter very seriously,” she said. She said she could make no further comment due to the continuing investigation.
