A man who claimed to have worked for the US secret service has had his personal injury claim against Roscommon County Council for injuries sustained in a road crash struck out.

Mr Justice John Quirke in the High Court dismissed David Aldridge’s claim after lawyers for the council said he had failed to comply with requests for discovery of records including revenue returns made in Ireland or any other country before the incident in 2001.

In an affidavit, Mr Aldridge, Charlestown, Co Mayo, said he was unable to provide them because he was prohibited under US security laws from discussing his employment.

The judge placed a four- week stay on his order in case Mr Aldridge wished to make any submissions.
