Abacha backed for President

Nigeria - Nigeria's dominant political party yesterday adopted military ruler Gen Sani Abacha as its candidate for August's presidential elections. The unanimous agreement was by delegates of the United Nigeria Congress Party, which took more than 65 per cent of the seats at the last national elections in December.
