St Joseph's School, in Parnell Street, Waterford, caters for 150 boys and girls from five to 18 years who have learning difficulties. The children come from a wide area - Waterford city, the east of the county, south Kilkenny, south Tipperary and south Wexford - and receive special attention in small classes, with extra skill training in horticulture and gardening.

Funds are badly needed from the wider community, as the school is developing an outside recreation area for physically disabled pupils and also intends to acquire a computer for the children.

A fund-raising fashion show is being held in Waterford's new Marina Hotel this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.. Tickets are £20, including food, and are available at the hotel (051-856600), the Waterford Design Centre and the school.

On Friday week, June 19th, a three-day flower festival begins in Ferns, Co Wexford, organised by the Co Wexford Garden and Flower Club. Invited flower arrangers from similar clubs in Dublin, Meath, Kilkenny, Wicklow and Carlow will decorate St Edan's Church of Ireland Cathedral and St Aidan's Catholic Cathedral in the town. Admission costs £5, and the event is in aid of the National Council for the Blind, with a donation also to each church.
