The Cuban sextet, Vocal Sampling, is, quite possibly, the finest a capella vocal group in the world. Despite the title, there's no electronic wizardry involved; everything - instruments (whether plucked, blown, bowed, struck or shaken), imitations of radio reception, whatever - is done by the six voices in the group. And it's carried off with enormous skill, wit, sophistication, precision, sense of fun and joie de vivre. Musically, these guys from Havana inhabit the rich world of their native Cuba, but they also embrace such a range of styles that they defy classification at times. Part of the Improvised Music Company/ ESB's Routes in Rhythm series, they can be heard at Vicar Street next Tuesday. The concert starts at 8pm. Don't miss them.
