Mogadishu - At least five people were shot dead and 13 wounded yesterday when militiamen loyal to a Somali warlord attacked a UN World Food Programme convoy in south Mogadishu, witnesses said.

Ms Brenda Barton, the WFP's regional spokeswoman in Nairobi, confirmed the attack. She said the 10-truck convoy was carrying 800 tonnes of foodstuffs from Mogadishu to the Bay and Bakol regions of southern Somalia.
