Moscow - Some 400 children of school age have been killed, another 1,000 wounded and 2,000 orphaned by the 21-month war in secessionist Chechnya, a Russian official said yesterday cited by Interfax news agency.

According to the official in charge of re-establishing the school system in war-shattered Chechnya, Mr Vasily Mizherikov, around 6,0O0 Chechen children and adolescents have also been left homeless by the conflict.
