Many of the 39 stab wounds inflicted on a murder victim were "multiple blows in rapid succession from one person holding one knife", a jury at the Central Criminal Court heard.

The Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, was giving her direct evidence in the trial of Mr John Paul Hayes (23), of Belcamp Green, Coolock, Dublin.

Mr Hayes denies that on June 13th, 1999, he murdered Mr Francis Moore (33) at his home in Coultry Road, Ballymun, Dublin.

Dr Cassidy carried out a post-mortem examination on the deceased man's body after it was found on the balcony of his home with multiple stab wounds.
