Three men have been found guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of beating up off-duty garda∅ at Shelbourne Park in Dublin.

A fourth accused was acquitted. All four had denied a total of 14 charges of violent disorder and assaults in the incident on May 15th, 1999, and claimed in evidence they punched the garda∅ only in self-defence.

Joseph Cullen (23) was found guilty of two charges, and Jeremy Skerritt (23) of one. Both are from Oliver Bond Flats, Dublin. Anthony Brown (26), of Phibsboro Road, was found guilty of two counts of assault and one of violent disorder.

Mr Wesley Keating (23), also of Oliver Bond Flats, was found not guilty of three charges. Both Cullen and Brown were also found not guilty of one further count each of assault.

Judge Patrick McCartan remanded the three in custody for sentence on December 20th. He told Mr Keating he was free to go.
