New York - Some 40,000 unionised construction workers took police by surprise yesterday in a protest that caused injuries to about 20 people and resulted in 38 arrests. The protest blocked streets in Manhattan. The workers were protesting at a $33 million transit contract to a New Jersey company that employs non-union workers.
