New York - Angola's opposition UNITA yesterday released 14 United Nations peacekeepers it had been holding for a month as virtual hostages, the UN said.

It said leaders of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola had given permission for an aircraft to land to pick up the peacekeepers, 10 from India and the rest from Senegal, Sweden and Bulgaria.
