There were 11 children born to single mothers under the age of 15 during 1995 in the Eastern Health Board catchment, according to statistics released by the board. There were a total of 5,105 infants born to unmarried single mothers that year.
Mothers in the 20-24 age group represented the largest single age category with 2,200 births, followed by the 25-29 group with 1,255 births. There were 62 births in the 40-44 age group and seven among women 45 or older.
