A nine year old Co Cavan boy has been awarded £108,000 for injuries received at birth.

The action was taken by Christopher McDermott suing by his mother, Frances, of Griffith Park, Cootehill, against the North Eastern Health Board and a doctor, Dr Louis Courtney, who was attached to Lisdarn Hospital, Co Cavan.

The claim was settled in the High Court and in the affidavit of the plaintiffs it was alleged the child received damage to a nerve in his left shoulder, rendering the arm useless for life.

The court ruled that £100,000 be invested for the boy and £8,000 paid out to his parents to cover expenses.
