New Delhi - At least 100 people were killed when five passenger train cars plunged into a river yesterday in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The United News of India (UNI) said nearly 400 were believed injured in the disaster some 900 kms (559 miles) southeast of New Delhi.

In a separate incident at least 25 people died in a refinery blaze in southern India which blew out tanks storing thousands of tonnes of oil and gas. The accident happened at Visakhapatnam, a coastal city in Andhra Pradesh.
