My holidays: Lisa Lambe

What’s your earliest holiday memory? Travelling to the Burren, in Co Clare, with my mum and dad

What's your earliest holiday memory?Travelling to the Burren, in Co Clare, with my mum and dad. My two younger brothers were with me in the back of the car, and they were always fighting. But it was brilliant and one of those lovely simple times I will always remember.

What was your worst holiday?I took a nine-hour bus journey from Berlin to Prague in my student days. We arrived at 5am, and it was really cold.

The accommodation we arranged was in a tower block an hour from the city. At the time it felt horrific, but it wasn’t that bad. We got some money through Western Union and moved closer to the city on day two.

What was your best holiday?A trip to Venice with my boyfriend a couple of months ago. I had always wanted to go.

It was so romantic. The view really hits you. We took a water taxi, and it’s straight out of a Bond movie. It was really quiet when we were there. We were lucky St Mark’s Square wasn’t flooded, and we spent a lot there drinking lots of coffee. Paris is always one of my favourite cities for a break. I first went on a cultural exchange when I was 17, and I have been back many times.

If budget or work were not a restriction, what would be your dream holiday?I'd love to go back to New York. It's a great city, and I would love to live there. In my profession a lot go to London, as the nearest place for theatre on a bigger scale. But in terms of work New York calls me more. I'd also like to go to Kerala, in southern India, where they do a lot of Ayurveda treatments for total relaxation.

If you had your pick, who would you bring on holiday with you?My boyfriend, of course. But also the panel from the BBC programme QI, hosted by Stephen Fry. That would be an entertaining holiday.

What's your favourite place in Ireland?West Cork. My family has been going there for years and has a little place in Schull. It is a beautiful part of Ireland. It is like going to a home from home. It is so relaxing, with great walks and lovely pints. I associate it with time off from performing, and it's where I go to debrief.

Your recommended holiday reading?I recently read Tender Is the Night, by F Scott Fitzgerald. Another one was A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, which I could not put down and read in two days.

Where will you go to next?We are going to Rome after the Dublin fringe festival. I was there previously at the end of a trip on the Amalfi coast and Tuscany. But it was late August and really busy. So hopefully by the end of September it will be quieter.
