Smile, you're on camera

If you are one of thousands of Irish people who will pass through Heathrow over the holiday period, be prepared for greater security in all terminals. Irish flights now enter security between areas G and H in Terminal One, and all passengers will be photographed.

Your picture will then be matched when you go through security for Gates 80-90, from where the Irish flights depart. Check before you travel onwards which terminal you are due to fly out of or in to. Flights are moving to Terminal Five and other terminals, too. More information at www.heathrowairport.com.

Airline flies like the wind

Scandinavian Airlines claims it is saving tonnes of fuel each month by checking the weather thoroughly and flying a path in which the wind is not as strong. The airline says that in May it reduced fuel consumption by 79 tonnes, corresponding to 237 tonnes of CO2 or the equivalent of 28 one-way flights between Copenhagen and Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.

It's a wheelie wide world

Fearghal O'Nuallain and Simon Evans are attempting to become the first Irishmen to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle. The Revolution Cycle will begin on November 1st and will take them through 30 countries, across four continents, as they cover more than 30,000km. The pair will visit some of the most remote, harsh and beautiful places on Earth along the way. They hope to raise €100,000 for the charity Aware along the way.
