* Get toughSo you've done the easy stuff and now want to test yourself further. While An Óige organises "easy" and "moderate" hikes each Sunday, the Hillwalkers Club was established for those who were interested in longer and more challenging hikes – the club refers to these as "hard" hikes. Non-members are welcome for two or three hikes, but if they want to continue they must become members of the club. A bus leaves from Burgh Quay each Sunday morning at 10am (€12 return). More details at hillwalkers club.com or tel: 086-3563843.

* Lost and foundYou have left your compass at home and your GPS is out of battery power, what do you do? You are on a forest trail, which direction is north? The Way with Nature in Co Waterford runs a one-day course, in which participants are shown how to use scientific, traditional and ancient methods to help find your way. For example, north and south can be found using the sun, moon and stars, while ancient monuments can indicate which way is east. For details about course content, availability, location and fees, contact Seán O'Connor at 087-9233888, or e-mail: info@thewaywithnature.com.
