Lough Key Forest Park
Some of our forests parks are so advanced when it comes to the range of leisure activities on offer you could spend a week exploring them.
Lough Key in Boyle, Co Roscommon, is one of them. There are 800 acres of parkland and forest and most visitors will orient themselves in the visitor centre and then set off on the Lough Key Experience, an audio trail of the park’s history, flora and fauna through the 19th century underground tunnels, to the top of the refurbished five-storey Moylurg viewing tower. For children, probably the most exciting part will be the Tree Canopy Walk, a popular way to make your way through forests in other European countries and this one was the first of its kind in Ireland. Just over 300m in length, the path rises more than nine metres above the woodland floor, giving views of the lake.
Other activities include a two-storey maze with 47 rooms containing tasks and puzzles to be solved. There is camping in Lough Key.
