SMALL PRINT:HOW THE mighty have fallen. She dressed the stars of one of the most iconic television programmes of all time, and was nominated for an Oscar for her work on The Devil Wears Prada, but Sex and the City's costume designer extraordinaire Patricia Field has now been recruited by Kotex to mentor the finalists of a sanitary pad design contest called Ban The Bland.

What on earth would Carrie Bradshaw say – not to mention Samantha Jones?

Kotex is calling on the public to upload their own designs online, which Field will then work on. Currently uploaded creations on the comapny’s website include sanitary pads featuring stars-and-stripes designs, skulls, and a rather fetching houndstooth motif.

“I don’t really know a thing about white, I see a world that’s very colourful and textured with ice flying through it,” Field says, explaining why sanitary pads shouldn’t be white anymore.

While career diversification is to be commended, “Sex And The Sanitary” doesn’t quite have the same glamorous ring to it.
