Six months after the earthquake that devastated Haiti and killed an estimated 230,000 people, Oxfam has launched a photography exhibition in Dublin’s Powerscourt Townhouse, featuring work that celebrates the spirit of the Haitian people.

The exhibition, which will run until July 31st, features 30 photographs from award-winning photojournalist Ami Vitale – whose work has featured in Time magazine and National Geographic – Oxfam communications officer Jane Beesley, and Reuters’s Jorge Silva. Pictured above is a portrait by Ami Vitale, showing Madame Roland with her grandchildren, as she watches farmers learn about beekeeping in Lacedras, Haiti, on May 8th. The hope is that beekeeping will provide an alternative income source for farmers.

The photographs aim to depict not only the resilience of the earthquake survivors living in Haiti, but the work done by Oxfam, which has a five-year programme of aid in the country, with a focus on long-term recovery. See oxfamireland.org for details.
