Peugeot has finally released details of its new 407 Coupé, confirming what was reported in MOTORS on February 2nd.

Completing the 407 range, the new coupé carries the good looks of its saloon counterpart, with its eye-catching front end and sleek lines.

Due to premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, it will arrive in Ireland in January 2006. Prices have yet to be confirmed but buyers can expect them to start at about €45,000 for the 2.2-litre 160bhp petrol model.

Along with this 2.2 16v petrol engine, which is matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox there will be a 2.9-litre V6 24v unit offering 210bhp, combined with a choice of a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

The new diesel 2.7 HDi V6 24v 205bhp engine, with a maximum torque of 440Nm, previously available only in the new 607, will also feature in the 407 Coupé. This engine comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The car's platform, though identical to that of the saloon, has been specially developed to create a lower vehicle.

Inside, the 407 Coupé will be available with a choice of trims and offers four separate seats, aluminium surrounds on the instrument panel and a hand-stitched leather trim on the dashboard.

All versions will feature automatic air conditioning with dual zone controls, automatic windscreen wipers and variable cruise control among other features.

In terms of safety, ESP is standard on all models along with ABS, emergency brake assist, traction control and seven air bags.
