NEW YORK Citys next generation of yellow cabs will be a fleet of Nissan minivans featuring sliding doors, anti-bacterial seats, airbags in the back and outlets to charge mobile phones.
Engineered to handle the city’s 6,300 miles (10,136 kilometers) of streets, passengers will begin hailing the new cabs next autumn. The Nissan minivan is expected to fully replace the entire current fleet – which is a mix of over 16 different models – by 2018.
