How often have you been out and about or on holiday and wanted to get a snap of yourself? The outstretched hand approach always results in half a head and a rather startling strained expression – or God forbid, the excruciating advance-on-some-stranger tactic to ask them to take your picture for you.

This is, of course, fraught with problems: odds are they don’t speak English, they’re undoubtedly going to take a really lousy picture and they may of course just run off with your camera. Here is a sololution: the Quik Pod, a monopod that makes it easy to take photos of yourself.

Most of us will remember the traditional Polaroid, which spat out instant snaps. Well the Polaroid is back, but this time it’s altogether more clever. Not only does it pop out photographs – this time in glorious full colour – combining the instant fun of an old school Polaroid with the technology of the popular PoGo Printer, this 5-megapixel snapper does exactly what it says on the tin. It takes a picture then ejects a print on a 2”x3” slice of sticky-back photo paper. Since this is also digital, you can store the snaps on your computer and print them your own way if you wish.

Or it might just make you look super cool on your commute. Stand out and be noticed and make your way to the office, Jedi style.

Canon G10

Price:€456 (plus €13.90 shipping) Buy:pixmania.ie

Having spent two weeks with the Canon D10, we can safely conclude that it is the best compact camera around. Sure it is slightly more expensive than the average spend, but it is superb.

It isn’t quite handbag-sized but it’s smaller than an SLR and does without interchangeable lenses. Instead, it packs in most of the brains of a decent SLR – manual functions, a 14-megapixel ability and excellent image clarity. The huge screen at the back makes setting up your shot easy and there are some really neat features, such as one that allows you to stitch photos together.

You can also shoot halfway decent video, perfect for the likes of YouTube. If you dont want to go for an SLR but want first-class pics, wed recommend this one.
