■ HONDA chief executive Takeo Fukui will step down in June after six years at the helm, to be replaced by senior managing director Takanobu Ito.

Fukui (64) will become executive adviser to Honda as it faces a frozen credit market and plummeting sales.

Fukui is the latest Japanese car executive to step aside. Toyota chief executive Katsuaki Watanabe last month said he was stepping aside to be replaced by Akio Toyoda, grandson of the founder of Asia’s largest automaker.
