End of season at Loughshinny

It's coming to the end of the road racing season, and one of the last of the season's meetings takes place this weekend on the Killalane circuit in north Co Dublin on Saturday and Sunday.

Organised by the Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club, Killalane Road Races have been running for more than 20 years. Lots of local riders have qualified for this year's event including Sean Leonard (34) who raced in the first-ever Killalane road races. The Dunlops will also be ready for action; William, Michael and Sam will all be on the grid for race day.

Record breaking bike auction

The sale of the Brian R Verrall Motorcycle Collection at Bonhams Auction House in London last week broke two world records.

The first record was for an ex-Roland Martin, Brooklands, 1927 Zenith-JAP 8/4hp Championship Motorcycle Combination which sold for €218,300 against a pre-sale estimate of between €147,500 and €184,500. This set a new record for the sale of a British bike at auction, and a new record for a motorcycle with a sidecar.

Shortly after, a 1939 Vincent-HRD 998cc Series-A Rapide broke the new record with a price of €264,194 against an estimate of between €153,772 and €184,500.
