INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
We like the sound of "Nobody Said It Was Easy", the title of just one of the workshops at the Banúlacht International Women's Day Conference, Voices, next Wednesday, when the hugely admirable Katherine Zappone (right) of the Irish Human Rights Commission will be joined by a host of creative women to inspire local and global activism. It's a day-long conference at the Marino Institute of Education, Dublin 9, 10am-4.30pm, followed by a reception. €25 includes lunch and reception. Booking essential. See www.banulacht.ie. Meanwhile, Rita Fagan from the Family Resource Centre in Inchicore is organising her annual hooley in the Royal Dublin Hotel, O'Connell Street, 9pm-1am. More than 300 women from all over the country converged last year in fancy dress. Open to all. €12 at the door. At the Clé Club, Liberty Hall, Nóra Geraghty is bean an tí for a night of song starting at 9pm. More than 150 women's organisations around the country will be participating in events on the day. Another good contact is Kieran Clifford at Amnesty International, who is involved in organising effective lobby groups for a long list of gender-related issues. Contact her by ringing 01- 6776361 (ext 226) or for information about rallies and meetings in your part of the world. Catch up with the sisterhood. Patsey Murphy
