Shopfront Eoin LyonsTiles aren't just for kitchens and bathrooms - that's why Jason Lawless, who works for architect/design firm Duff Tisdall as well as on his own interior design projects, laid polished porcelain tiles on the floor of his bedroom. Jason is asthmatic and finds them easier to keep dust free than a carpet.
"People often think tiles are cold but with underfloor heating they're okay - plus the room is decorated with warm colours." They were bought at Lomac Tiles (01 8551588) and cost about €120 per sq m. "They look and feel practically the same as marble but don't have to be sealed," says Jason.
"With a marble floor you've got to put a sealant down every 18 months because it's a porous material. If you use a ceramic tile and it chips you're going to see the clay of the tile but with porcelain it's the same material right through so it doesn't matter as much."
