THE SITTINGROOM of this Chicago apartment is the work of interior designer Barbara Barry. It is all understated glamour and feels ultra comfortable.

American designer Barry came to our attention this side of the pond when she remade the Savoy Grill in London and showcased her X-back dining chair – one of the most comfortable restaurant chairs imaginable.

The occasion chairs pictured are similar in style to her collection for Baker, especially the double X-back chair which is built on a beech frame. These are available through Baker at London’s Chelsea Design Centre (0044 207 823 3612) and cost about €1,958 each plus fabric and VAT.

Closer to home Helen Turkington (01-412 5138) can source oval-backed dining chairs and matching oval dining table, similar to those pictured. Expect to pay around €650 each for the chairs and €2,800 for the table.

In the foreground is an oval coffee table, which Helen Turkington can also source, at €1,100, while the sofa will cost around €3,200.

The designer has recently opened Helen Turkington Fabrics at Terminus Mills on Clonskeagh Road in Dublin 6 (01-260 2524) where she has a range of some 200 fabrics at reduced prices. Theyre also available to take with you and go. A velvet similar to that pictured on the sofa costs €23.60 a metre.

Helen Turkington’s olive herringbone fabric was what transformed the tired armchair in last week’s make and do feature. It cost €45.50 a metre.
