A record price for a Howth house was achieved yesterday at auction when a businessman paid £3.87 million (#4.92 million) for a five-bedroom Georgian house on one of the best sites in the Baily area. The two-storey house, The Tansey on Ceanchor Road, stands on eight acres of terraced gardens and sweeping lawns with stunning views over Dublin Bay.
Bidding at the Finnegan Menton auction opened at £2 million (#2.54m) and with four parties chasing the property, bids of £200,000 (#253,947) were registered until it reached the £3 million (#3.81m) mark. At that stage, the individual bids dropped to £100,000 (#126,973) and by the time it reached £3.75 million (#4.76m) three of the bidders were still on their feet. Auctioneer Iain Finnegan declared the house on the market at £3.8 million (#4.82m) and after three further bids of £25,000 (#31,743) each, it was knocked down to the eventual buyer.
The house dates from the 1740s and has four reception rooms, a conservatory, five bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a floor area of 4,600 sq ft. In Sutton, Dublin 13, a four-bedroom bungalow at 28 Dublin Road sold at a HOK Residential auction for £540,000 (#685,658).
In Dublin 5, 2 Cedar Walk, Raheny, sold prior to auction for £430,000 (#545,987) through Sherry FitzGerald.
Flynn & Associates secured over £430,000 (#545,987) after auction for 119 Vernon Avenue in Clontarf, a four-bed house.
On St Lawrence Road, number 82, a five-bedroom end of terrace house was withdrawn at £600,000 (#761,842) by Douglas Newman Good, which is seeking £660,000 (#838,027).
Still in Clontarf, a five-bedroom bungalow, 16 Seafield Road West, was withdrawn by Gunne Residential, which is seeking £950,000 (#1.20m).
A three-bedroom house at 27 St Canice's Road, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, sold at auction for £335,000 (#425,362) by Douglas Newman Good.
In Drumcondra, Dublin 9, 13 Glandore Road, Drumcondra, was withdrawn at £380,000 (#482,500) and sold later for a higher figure through Gunne Residential.
A three-bedroom cottage on 10.5 acres, Woodbine Cottage in Donabate, Co Dublin, sold at auction for £625,000 (#793,586) by Ganly Walters.
In Skerries, Co Dublin, a five-bedroom house, Armadale on South Strand, was withdrawn by Douglas Newman Good, which is seeking £550,000 (#698,355).

Daphne L Kaye & Associates secured a strong price of £1,255,000 (#1.59m) at auction for Woodview, on Gordon Avenue in Foxrock.
The same agent withdrew a five-bedroom bungalow, Amberley, The Coppins on Brighton Road, at £550,000 (#698,355).
Still in Foxrock, Dublin 18, Gunne Residential is seeking £725,000 (#920,560) for Gerrards, a bungalow on Hainault Park following its withdrawal from auction.
