A cottage in a quaint crescent in Raheny village is for sale by private treaty through Douglas Newman Good with a guide price in excess of £235,000 (298,390).

Number 3 The Crescent is a two-bedroomed, very roomy cottage with a pretty, secluded rear garden.

It is situated just opposite the DART station, up a side road beside the church on the Howth Road. The gothic-inspired semi-circle of cottages is a well-known landmark on the northside, set back in a cobbled forecourt with flowers blooming along the front walls.

The houses were built in 1797 by Samuel Dick, who lived locally. When he died, he left the rent from these cottages for a school for "poor children of all religious persuasions in Raheny". That school is now Luigi's restaurant just around the corner. All the houses belong to the Church of Ireland - apart from the house currently on the market, which was sold in the 1980s.

An arched porch with latticed gothic windows on each side of the front door leads directly into a little sittingroom with a large old fireplace. This is a high room with a mezzanine study built into the roof space at one end, lit by a Velux window and accessed by a ship-type ladder. Behind this are two bedrooms, a large kitchen/breakfastroom and a spacious bathroom with room for a washing machine in a little lobby beside the door.

Both bedrooms are very nicely decorated, one in a soft Georgian blue. There is a corner cast-iron fireplace, a wall of fitted presses and another floor-length cupboard. The bathroom has a power shower and a lot of floor space.

The kitchen is an extension to the main cottage, but feels as though it were part of the original and has plenty of room to use as a living and diningroom. It has a large window overlooking the back garden and a door out into it.

Outside, the garden is a triangular shape, with high hedges all around giving it complete privacy and, because of the low height of the cottages, it gets sun all day long.

The atmosphere in the cottage is very calm and it would make a perfect first home for a single person or a couple. There is a romantic country feel to it and new owners could embark on endless plans for enhancing its character, while being secure and cosy.
