Anyone who is harbouring a long-term, deeply-felt prejudice against country style just might be converted by this book. Usually, books with "country" in the title are filled with photographs of twee rooms with flowery wallpaper and entire forests of stripped pine. Ms Cargill's interpretation, however, is much more colourful. She shows six different country styles, from the muted tones of the Swedish look to the vibrant, warm interiors of the Mediterranean. What comes across is a cool simplicity and a look that will endure long after the fad for maple wood and fashionable furniture has passed.
