DUBLIN 7: €575,000:AS IS THE case with some of the period houses on the South Circular Road in Dublin, some of the houses lining the North Circular Road have been brought back into private ownership – with northside buyers having a greater choice of house types and sizes.
This one at 183 North Circular Road was bought by its present owners five years ago when it was in six bedsits. They turned it into a comfortable and stylish three-bedroom house which is now for sale by Sherry FitzGerald for €575,000.
The redbrick house is in a terrace of similar houses close to the Prussia Street intersection. As well as renovating, the owners extended at the back to create a larger eat-in kitchen and in all it has 160sq m (1,722sq ft).
Inside, the layout is now back to its pre-bedsit Victorian format. Off the wide hallway, with its smart black and white floor tiles, are two reception rooms divided by folding doors. Each room has its original fireplace and the original floorboards have been stripped and polished.
The kitchen in the back was a warren of smaller rooms but is now opened up and extended with glossy cream units at one end and an airy dining area at the other. The contemporary design of the extension features an oversized glazed patio door to let maximum light into the room and access to the garden.
Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, and a large family bathroom with designer fittings. There’s also a toilet downstairs.
The owners have landscaped the back garden for easy maintenance so it’s mostly under flagstones. There is a pedestrian entrance to a lane at the back of the house. There is no parking outside the front door, although there is on-street parking in adjacent streets.
