The good doctor has saved the Government's bacon several times but will it work in the long term? The great thing in politics is to call in an expert when you run into trouble. That way, you can deflect all criticism until the expert makes recommendations. You then implement the findings. This strategy has worked very well for the Government so far but the indications are that this approach may not now work. The main complaint is that the latest measures from Peter Bacon will push up rents in Dublin to even higher levels. Though the Government seems to have taken some steps to help first-time buyers along the west coast, it doesn't seem to have done a lot for first-time buyers on the east coast, which is where the main problem lies. The Government appears to have over used a tried and tested strategy - Bacon III seems to be a report too far.
