STEVEN Spielberg wasn't available so the Society of Chartered Surveyorsdecided to produce a film about surveying themselves. While we're guessing it won't exactly be crammed full of action and suspense, at least it does have a specific theme.

“We know that for a lot of people surveying is a bit of a mystery, so we see this film as a way of explaining what we do,” says Peter Stapleton, president of the SCS . “

One thing a lot of surveyors tell us – and this comes across in the film – is that no one day is the same. It’s an exciting career with lots of variety, interesting challenges and a qualification which is recognised all over the world.”

The six-minute film features representatives of the different divisions within surveying talking about their work, the challenges and the satisfactions.

But if people see the film and and decide to become surveyors will they be able to find a job? “It’s true that it’s a very challenging period right now,” says Stapleton.

“However these things are cyclical and the situation will improve in the next three or four years. Then the industry will need well-trained property and construction professionals”
