An Bord Pleanála has overturned outline planning permission granted by Waterford County Council for a 60-bed hotel, adventure park and tourist accommodation at Graigaridda, 2kms from Dunmore East in Co Waterford. Edel Morgan reports.

The plan for the six-hectare site was for an octagonal hotel with two wings leading to a conference centre and pool with the remainder an adventure park and tourist accommodation.

A local couple appealed because they said it would be located in an area zoned for agricultural use. The scheme was refused by An Bord Pleanála on the grounds that the site is in a predominantly rural area "lacking certain public services and served by a poor road network". It also considered that additional traffic on a narrow road at a bend where visibility of oncoming vehicles is severely restricted would be a hazard.
