A LARGE area of Killiney, Co Dublin may be designated an Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) following a vote by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCOCO) next week.

The designation would protect the architectural character and landscape of Killiney, in particular, large villas in heavily wooded gardens. Typical properties would include Bono’s house on Vico Road and the Canadian embassy residence on Strathmore Road.

The ACA aims to rationalise the existing Killiney conservation area, according to a spokeswoman for DLRCOCO. It will now include Killiney village, but exclude Killiney Heath, an upmarket area of modern houses near Church Road.

The ACA area would stretch from Victoria Road to Military Road and from the sea to across Killiney Hill Road. In practical terms, it means residents will have to check planning terms carefully before changing their properties.
