The statement piece is the free-standing, cast-iron slipper bath, €3,344, which comes with a choice of gold, cast-iron or chrome feet. The Colonial sink pictured has been discontinued but try Hampshire for a similar style. The basin costs €415, the pedestal €249 and the taps start from an additional €109.

The Victorian toilet costs a total of €1,297, including the cistern and flush pipe. The charcoal Lloyd Laura Ashley (01 8850420) wallpaper knits the look together. It is usually priced at €29 per roll but is discounted by 30 per cent until early May. The sideboard is an auction find and cost a mere €75.

What makes it stand out is the addition of a white marble top to make it both functional and cleaner looking.

Elsewhere, the diningroom is a confection, a real walnut swirl. The James table seats 10 and was sourced from Ebony Rose in Navan (046 9070655). Price €2,875. The accompanying dining chairs cost €265 each and the carvers cost €335 each.
