Classic chairs by some of the world's most renowned designers are the focus of a one-night only exhibition of seating designed for American furniture manufacturers, Knoll, next week.
Hungarian architect Marcel Breuer's Wassily Chair, designed in 1925, along with Eero Saarinen's red and white Tulip Collection, which is described as being an icon of furniture design, will be among some of the seating in the retrospective display to be shown at the Gravity Bar in the Guinness Hopstore.
Other modern design classics featured will include the famous Cross Check chair by Frank Gehry, architect of some of the most distinguished buildings in the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
Perhaps one of the most popular chairs at the exhibition will be architect Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair, designed for the crown prince of Spain in 1929. This design has remained one of the most sought-after creations since the 1930s and can be spotted in the reception areas of many corporate headquarters throughout the world, including Bank of Ireland on Baggot Street.
Established in the 1920s, Knoll is one of the world's largest office furniture manufacturers. The launch of Knoll's latest European design range will also take place at the exhibition, which is being staged by Dublin-based office furniture specialists Walls to Workstations.
According to Marc ╙'Riain, the design manager at Walls to Workstations, while there's a Japanese influence in the Scope range, the products come in bright and funky colours.
The exhibition will take place in the Gravity Bar at the Guinness Hopstore on Monday, December 3. Further information from Walls to Workstations on 01 642 00 50.
