Leafy Hainault Road in Foxrock is the unlikely setting for a pair of stunning contemporary houses, one of which is to be auctioned on June 8th.Lisney is guiding €2 million for Pinehurst, a four-bedroom house with a 260sq m (2,800sq ft) interior fit for Barbarella.

The two detached houses, designed and built by architect Bernard Moloney, replace an unremarkable bungalow, and each still has space for good-sized gardens front and back.

Mr Moloney intends to live in the house next door and his team has finished Pinehurst to a high standard. From the entrance porch with its wall of Donegal quartz, through the long hallway which ends with a soaring window onto the garden, this is a very impressive home.

The hallway has three rooms leading off it - one is a family room overlooking the front garden - the remaining two rooms are simple white spaces that can be enclosed by a tall glass screen that slides along one side of the hall.

The open-plan livingroom is a spectacular space with its soaring white walls and inset oblong fireplace topped by a plasma TV. The custom-made Italian kitchen comes with integrated stainless steel appliances and lots of extras including a hose-type tap with ferocious water pressure. Floor-to-ceiling folding doors open onto a large patio tiled in porcelain. A fully fitted utility area and pantry completes the downstairs.

The four bedrooms upstairs lead off a wide landing where light streams in from rooflights overhead. The main bedroom has a superb en suite bathroom and a dressingroom fitted by Interlubke which also provided wardrobes throughout.
