A flying freehold property with planning permission for 28 apartments on the site of the former Abbey Mall shopping arcade at Lower Liffey Street, Dublin 1, is to be offered for sale by tender on December 2nd. Hooke & MacDonald expects to secure in excess of £750,000 for the L-shaped infill site, which is located in a tax designated area. One of the conditions of the sale is that about 15,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor must be built to shell condition and returned to the vendor, Joe Laydon, of the Don Lay Group. Mr Laydon plans to provide 19 shops and 11 kiosks, which will concentrate mainly on food. Mr Laydon paid £970,000 for the Abbey Mall more than two years ago and subsequently acquired two adjoining properties. Hooke & MacDonald plans to sell the apartment sites in a single lot or in two separate lots, one of them for 16 units with an entrance on to Liffey Street and the other for 12 units with access from The Lotts.
