Plans for over 700 new homes on lands adjacent to the former Dogs and Cats home in Rathfarnham have been given approval by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Developer Deane Homes has been given the all clear for a 10-year plan to build 793 houses and apartments on a site at Woodtown, Stocking Lane near Rathfarnham Golf Course.

The developers also plan to accommodate a 3,328sq m (11,920sq ft) neighbourhood centre with a food store, three shops, a crèche, a pub and five offices on the site.

Previous plans for the site involved the construction of over 1,100 homes.
